These MN12 cars haven't been built since One of the things that goes bad over time, and not necessarily distance is the rubber hoses on the emissions system. If the emission hoses under the hood of your car are original, it's time to replace them now, rather than wait.
If you wait, it can lead to air leaks and cause idle or drivability problems, and most likely some diagnostic trouble codes like a P or P Your car may not idle right. I'll go to the dealer or shop online to get the quality of a genuine Ford part. In this case where we're simply replacing small lengths of emission hose, it's likely not critical to get OEM parts.
Well the plastic part of my setup was fine, so I just went to the local auto parts store and bought emission hose.
Note that these instructions apply to many more Ford 4. This same process applies to Mustang, F, Crown Vic, etc. Another thing to be aware of is that you cannot use regular vacuum hose to replace emission hoses. You must use emissions hose or fuel line hose on those hoses. Regular vacuum hoses just aren't strong enough to work. The auto parts store may try to sell you fuel injection hosethat type of hose is rated to handle a lot higher PSI pressure and is not necessary.
As far as I know it will work, but again it's not necessary. I see there are silicone hoses on the market, I have no experience with them so I can't say if they would work. According to the factory Ford service manual, some or all? The manual mentions red and green striped hoses but I couldn't tell if my lines had stripes or not, they were too old.
For our purposes we don't need the color stripes anyway.Fjallraven factory vietnam
There should be a small sticker under the hood or on the front radiator support area labeled Vacuum Hose Routingrefer to that on your car to see where all your lines run.
So I went to the local auto parts store for the stuff, but the total for those parts was a bit less they sell hose by the foot even though you won't use it all just buy what the amounts I mentioned. The process will be similar for 3.Evo 3 body kit
As for tools, really all you need is a sharp utility knife or maybe scissors to cut the hoses. You want nice clean cuts, preferably. What I'm not including below is how I determined what hose sizes I needed. I used a digital micrometer and measured the internal diameter of the existing hoses and the outside diameter of the things they attach to.Jul 11, 1.
Jul 11, 2. Messages: Likes Received: 0. Ok so if you know your engines vacuum how do you select the proper PCV valve? I understand they are different, and typically marked, but where do I find the specifics on the individual valves to make the correct purchase? Jul 13, 3. Jul 13, 4. Messages: 2, Likes Received: It's not that simple. This from a GM training book Problems can also occur if a customer installs the wrong PCV valve for the application.
As we said earlier, the flow rate of the PCV valve is calibrated for a specific stock only GM engine application. Two valves that appear to be identical on the outside same diameter and hose fittings may have different size and flow pintle valves and springs inside, giving them very different flow rates even at the same level vacuum. This flow rate is a result of taking a dozen parameters into consideration. On a non stock application, the technician is forced into a trial and error situation which may or may not yield good results.
Last edited: Jul 13, Jul 13, 5. Well lets here it, what else is there any how is it calculated? Ive read cubic inches and vacuum both play major roles, but have yet to find where I can find the calculations on how to figure out what pcv i need. Hell I cant even find any specifics on the valves themselves, besides that they are stamped this or that. Jul 14, 6. Ill check into it, if ya notice that was a quote message. I had gotten it from and ex GM tech engineers when I was playing with my PCV and I was forwarned as I just grabbed one off the rack that looked right, not knowing there was more to it.
Most auto stores just have em on the rack where you can just grab any one you want. Jul 14, 7. Messages: 14, Likes Received: 9. Where am I to find a place where I can order a 'GM' unit by number?
Or its replacment?? Guess when I hit up the parts store again I'll get the '70; ; out of a vette ' piece. Jul 14, 8. Messages: 1, Likes Received: 0. Has anyone else encountered this while replacing this part?
G-man thanks for the reply. The 12" tubing on the connector is designed for my model and it's supposed to be insert in the air intake Sorry, I mistakenly wrote valve cover.
Do you know if it can bend into the air intake or does the air intake need to be removed?
On the 3. Only the bottom portion of the valve is supposed to be inserted. If you're pushing a 12" length of hose into the valve cover you're doing it wrong. The hose is supposed to connect the PCV valve to the air intake or throttle body depending on the engine. The part number you purchased may be applicable to more than one engine so the extra hose could be used on a different engine than yours. You may have to cut to length for yours.Mercedes fire emblem voice actor
If the hose is the same measurement all of the manner or on each ends that you may get a belted hose like a power guidance return hose to exchange it simply excellent. If it dose have different ends you could additionally splice two or three sizes to make it work. If it's a strait enough shot to take action with no kinking the hose. Update: G-man thanks for the reply.

PCV Valve System (PCV) (Positive Crankcase Ventilation System)
Fast Shipping. Secure Shopping.Although its name might sound very complicated, it is a very simple device. Overlooking this system is a common mistake as it is relatively simple and requires minimal maintenance. But, When it is not working properly, We should see the signs. Sludge buildup is a growing concern and the PCV valve system plays a big role in controlling it. A clean PCV system is very important. Otherwise airflow will be insufficient.
A plugged or malfunctioning PCV system will eventually damage an engine. Contaminants accumulate in the engine oil, and unrelieved crankcase pressure can blow out gaskets and seals, creating oil leaks.
A poorly maintained engine PCV system will eventually become contaminated with oil sludge. It consists of a simple spring-loaded valve with a sliding pintle inside. The movement of the pintle up and down changes the orifice opening to regulate the volume of air passing through the PCV valve. The location of the valve allows it to pull vapors from inside the engine without sucking oil from the crankcase.
There are baffles inside the valve cover or valley cover that deflect and help separate droplets of oil from the blowby vapors. A hose connects the top of the PCV valve to a vacuum port on the throttle body, carburetor or intake manifold. Allowing the vapors to be siphoned directly into the engine. This is compensated for by the calibration of the carburetor or fuel injection system.
The PCV system has no net effect on fuel economy, emissions or engine performance — provided everything is working correctly. The flow rate of a PCV valve is calibrated for a specific engine application. For the system to function normally, therefore, the PCV valve must adjust the flow rate as operating conditions change. When the engine is off, the spring inside the valve pushes the pintle shut.
This seals the crankcase and prevents the escape of any residual vapors into the atmosphere. Under high load or hard acceleration conditions, intake vacuum drops even more.
It only takes a minute to sign up. I know that the PCV hoses in my car need some TLC; that fact is readily apparent because someone has liberally applied zip ties to some of them to keep them in place. In preparation of changing both the hoses and the PCV valve, I was looking everything over and tracing the hoses around to see what exactly I needed to buy for replacement. While inspecting closer I found this piece connected to the PCV hose near my throttle body that inserts into the air intake manifold.
Not only are there zip ties holding the hose together, but it appears that someone's also tried to use superglue to hold it together. The white spot on this connector is hard and crystalline, like dry superglue:.
Since this car is my only way around, I was too afraid of the thing crumbling to pieces if I handled it too much, so I didn't want to pull it apart to get a better look at it.
Ford 4.6L Vacuum / Emission Hose Replacement
I haven't been able to figure out what this thing is called to make any headway in searching for a replacement. What is this peice called? That is a PVC valve hose assembly. This connects the PCV valve to the manifold the connector you pointed out and also continues back to a vacuum manifold behind the engine.
Had to replace this on my daughter's car that has the same engine. The connectors were dried out and cracked. This caused a vacuum leak and a CEL for a lean code. It took me about 30 minutes to replace because the bracket over it has to be taken loose and the tube routed the same way as the original. Sign up to join this community. I wasn't able to find them originally because in their database these are not listed as being a fit for a '94 Century, but they are listed as a fit for a '95 Century. After looking at some Google images of 95 Century engine bays it looks exactly the same so I'm going to pick one of these up and give it a try.
The reviews on this product complain of poor build quality and early failure, so FWIW, you may want to buy this from Advanced Auto Parts or O'Reilly's because they offer a 1-year warranty while Auto Zone doesn't Solar Mike Solar Mike 27k 2 2 gold badges 20 20 silver badges 46 46 bronze badges.
